SPN using a default instance of SQL 2005 - 01-07-2009 , 01:32 PM

Can someone tell me if when using an Default instance or(MSSQLSERVER) with
SPN's does it still use Kerberos .I ask this question because if you are
using a default instance don't you connect to the netbios name of the server
that owns the rescources.PLS any comments on this subject will help THX!!
