Default Service Account Setup - 12-30-2003 , 09:35 AM

Hello,

Just want to make sure I am setting my service accounts up correctly
permission wise.

In AD I have created two accounts, lets call clusterservice and sqlservice.
These two accounts do not have ANY typye of elavated permissions in the
domain, they are simply in the Domain Users Group. On my two servers I have
added these two accounts to the local Administrators group.

Is the correct way to do this?

Thanks,
JBailey

Hi
you have to add clusterservice account to Domina Admins
Group. Just sqlservice account need to be in Local
Adminsitrators Group.

Incorrect ... neither account needs to be a domain admin.
Both need to be domain accounts with the proper local
prvilieges. The SQL Account does not need to be Local
Admin, either. Just Cluster Admin.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;269229 for the server cluster (Windows) account.

See http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;239885 for SQL.

When installing SQL Server, it should set up the proper
privileges during the install with the account you tell
it. So you can pretty much ignore 239885 if SQL installs
properly.
