Default One-Node Cluster or Cluster after install - 02-20-2009 , 08:26 AM

Is a one-node cluster possible/feasible if there are problems with the second
node not working properly?

Or can you Cluster an existing SQL 2005 server at a later time without
rebuilding it all from scratch?

We have 2 Windows 2003 R2 64-bit Enterprise Servers right now, and have been
fighting to get SQL clustering to work (Normal clusters of drives works fine
- and we have an open case with Microsoft on the SQL issue that is going
nowhere fast), so we want to know if we can install SQL 2005 Standard
(64-bit) on one of these servers, get it operating normally...then go through
the Cluster option later, without having to remove SQL or databases/security
and start all over.

Links to any descriptions of this would be great - I don't get much detail
when I am searching for One-Node clusters or clustering SQL after the initial
installation.

Thanks!

You cannot convert from cluster to non-cluster after installation.

You can create a new clustered instance and import/copy the user databases
after installation.

What specifically is wrong with your atempted cluster install?
