Thank you very much. I have two nodes cluster and I am able to failed over to second one. I still have one more question. If I add more disks, do I need to setup it to node 2 explicitly and this new shared disk need to be in separate group, right? Thanks. "Geoff N. Hiten" wrote: Node 1 is just the current owner of the resources. In a cluster, there is only the current owner, not a permanent owner for each instance. If you cannot fail the group over to ndoe 2, then you have not installed it correctly. To create a second instance, you need one disk in a group other than the cluster or the first SQL group. The SQL installer will create all the other resources in that group necessary for the second instance. You will need to enter the IP address and network name, but SQL handles hte actual resource creation. -- Geoff N. Thanks. I think I didn't say clearly. What I meaned is that clustering the windows 2003 server. Now all group is active in note 1, e.g. ip address, cluster node name. Do I need to add new group which belongs to node2 that include cluster node 2 name and ip address? Thanks. "Linchi Shea" wrote: You don't 'convert' a single instance cluster to a multiple instance cluster. If you already have a SQL instance in a Windows failover cluster, you can just run SQL Setup again and add another instance to the same Windows failover cluster. There are some rules as to what mix you have with respect to default/named instances, and they are documented in the Books Online. So, after you have installed your first SQL instance in a cluster, you have a single instance cluster. After you have installed the 2nd SQL instance in that same cluster, you have a two-instance cluster, and so on and so forth. Linchi "Iter" wrote: Thank you very much. Now actually my question is how to convert single instance cluster into multiple instance cluster. I have single instance cluster and now I want to convert into multiple instance cluster. How can I setup in windows 2003 cluster adminstrator? Do I need to add new cluster, new group? Can you give me some hint? Thanks. Hi Guys, I have experience in single instance cluster installation, but I don't have multiple instance cluster installation. I check a lot of documents about it, but haven't got idea. Is there a lot of difference between them? Could anybody recommend me some useful doc to me? such as step by step installation and so on. BTW, in single instance cluster, there is only one virtual cluster name or ip assigned. How about in multiple instance cluster? Are there more ip address or cluster name assigned? Thanks. |
