Default multiple clusters - 02-05-2009 , 03:14 AM

Hi,
Can a single win2k3 machine serve as a standby node for more then 1 cluster?
Let's say I have 3 nodes: Node A, Node B, Node C.
I need Node C to be a standby machine for 2 clusters:
1. Node A+Node C
2. Node B+ Node C

is it possible in win2k3/win2k8?
sql2k5/sql2k8?

Cheers
Shahar

Hi Shahar
I have seen such intallations. If I recall this scenario is known as N+1 or
somethimg like that. Also you can configurea third node as
as the primary failover. I think if Geoff will jump in he will be able to
provide more info..

A node can only be a membver of one cluster at a time.

You can have multiple instances on a single cluster and more than two nodes
in a cluster.

So you would build a three node cluster with two instances. Possible in
Windows 2003 or 2008 and with SQL 2005 and 2008.

Basically what you need to do is setup a single 3 node cluster, not 2
separate 2 node clusters.
You then setup your resources so that only 2 nodes are listed as owners as
indicated in your description.
