Ok, well here is what I ended up doing then. I created my SQL Resource group
and just added the Data disk. I then created the MSDTC resource in a new
application specifying my log file disk as the storage for it and a new name
and IP address through the wizard. Once Windows completed the creation of
the MSDTC Application I went into it and selected the MDTC resource and right
clicked and moved it to my SQL application group in the cluster. This did
take some time to move but it did complete successfully and now MSDTC lives
inside my SQL application.

On a side note I did do this "The Hard Way" as I could have just kept both
disks in the SQL group and specified the logs disk for the MSDTC resource to
be dependent on and created MSDTC that way from the action menu.

The only issue thing I am concerned about with this setup is that I have the
MSDTC resource dependant on Disk 2 (my logs disk) but according to the
article as long as SQL and SQL Agent are not dependent on the DTC resource I
should have no problelms. Thanks again for your help and hopefully we will
get something official from Microsoft about how to properly configure this.

We should see a recommendation sometime from Microsoft, but they are likely
still celebrating getting SQL 2008 out the door.

Hello,

I've been attempting to build my first Windows 2008 failover cluster and
wanted to create the MSDTC resource since this will be a SQL cluster but
when
I go to create the resouce it is asking me for a disk to use, and normally
I
would use the Quorum disk as I have in the past in 2k3. The Quorum disk is
not available as a selection like in Win2k3 and it only shows me the other
two disks I have created for Logs and Data for SQL server as I haven't
created the app group for SQL yet on the cluster. Do I need to have
another
disk totally devoted to MSDTC in Windows 2008? If so, should I be able to
assume safely that the size of the disk needs to be only the same size as
the
quorum? Any comments, links, or articles on this would be greatly
appreciated. I have yet to find any technet resource that goes in depth
on
this topic. Thank you in advance.
