Default Making SQL Server 2008 and MSDTC fail over together on Windows 200 - 01-29-2009 , 01:23 PM

Sorry, I'm a newbie to clustering. We also have a SQL Server 2008 standard
cluster on Windows 2008 64-bit, 2-node Node with Disk Majority cluster.
Two services:
SQL08-MSDTC
SQL08-SQL-CRG
Storage (all ISCSI):
Witness (quorum) disk, Volume Q: Cluster disk 3 5 GB
SQL08-SQL-CRG, Volume E: Cluster disk 1 100 GB
SQL08-MSDTC, Volume N: Cluster disk 4 5 GB

I read Geoff Hiten's advice (thanks Geoff) at
http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/geoffh/ar...-Clusters.aspx

So exactly how do I put the DTC resource in the
targeted SQL group? Do I need to create a SQL group, and if so, how do I do
that?

Then, how do I change the DTC log file to be dependent on a group disk? Or
is it already dependent since the MSDTC service has its own cluster disk
(Cluster Disk 4)? Or do I change MSDTC to move the log file to Cluster Disk
4???

You create an application and pull in the base SQL disk. Install DTC and
anchor it to that disk. Then install SQL to that application.

If you already have SQL installed, just create a DTC resource, put it in
that group, and anchor it to your primary SQL Data disk.

One of the really nice things about Windows 2008 with SQL 2008 is that you
can now have multiple instances of the MSDTC.
