Default How to Estimate RAM Needs? - 01-20-2004 , 07:01 PM

Hello. We have a QAT SQL Server 2000 2-node Cluster
running on Windows 2003. The first node, QAT1, has a
single Virtual Server [with a corresponding Named
Instance]. The second node, QAT2, has 3 Virtual Servers
[with 3 corresponding Named Instances]. What method can we
use to estimate how much RAM is needed for the second node,
QAT2, for its 3 Virtual Servers? [We understand that we
will need to purchase identical RAM for the first node, QAT1]

From:
254321 INF: Clustered SQL Server Do's, Don'ts, and Basic Warnings
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=254321

Memory Allocation (All Versions)
--------------------------------

When you allocate memory for clustered SQL Server servers, make
sure that the summed value of the maximum server memory settings for all
the
instances of SQL Server plus any other cluster resource and local
application
requirments is less than the lowest amount of physical RAM available on
any of
the servers in the failover cluster.
