We are setting up a new SQL 2005 cluster on Windows 2003 Enterprise servers. The new configuration will be used to replace a current implementation and will need to look just like the original setup once it's said and done. Here is my question... After setting up the Windows and SQL clusters, can any/all of the following be modified? Windows OS hostname for each node? Windows IP address for each node? Windows cluster name/IP? I know that the SQL VIP and SQL cluster node name can be changed, but I cannot seem to find that info for the underlying OS settings. We need to have our new environment be an exact copy of the current environment. Our plan is to detach the database and move it to the new storage. Power down the old cluster and bring up the new one. We would then like to change the new cluster's setting rather than building the cluster from scratch at that time. We are unsure of exactly what the code is referencing, so we want everything to be the same. I appreciate any help. Thanks. |

No, Yes, No. What you can do is create a DNS alias for the virtual server so it resolves the old name to the new system. The new cluster and host names should be irrelevant from an application standpoint. -- Geoff N.
