Default Help understanding Exchange 2007 Design (Urgent) - 02-17-2009 , 01:56 PM

Hi all,

I have 2 AD sites within one domain, i want to achive site reseliency and
have the following:

Site 1:
500 Users
CCR Active node
CCR Passive node
CAS
HUB
EDG
Remote SCR for Site 2

Site 2:
500 Users
CCR Active node
CCR Passive node
CAS
HUB
EDG
Remote SCR for Site 1

Is that designe workable?
If i lost all site 1, will i be able to get the 1000 users depending on Site
2?
What if those AD sites are for diffrent domains ? will this designe work?

Thanks,
Micke

Hi,

I presume resilience for your CAS, HUB and EDGE servers is not required? If
the Hub Transport Server goes down in either site mail routing will fail. Is
that acceptable to you?

I see you appear to be investing heavily in HA (CCR cluster) and DR also
(SCR targets at each site), for such a redundant mailbox solution I would
have expected redundancy in the other Exchange 2007 roles.

In answer to your questions:

Site 2?
You would have to activate the SCR target, and yes you would recover the CCR
cluster from Site 1. Remember if Site 1 is recovered you will have to plan
moving those mailboxes back to Site 1 (if you want to).

Different child domains is fine yes.

Hi,

Let me answer you question wise and I will start from down.

What if those AD sites are for diffrent domains ? will this designe work?
SCR source and Target can be on different site but should be on same domain
hence this cannot work out.

Is that designe workable?
Yes if you have a single domain in both the site.

If i lost all site 1, will i be able to get the 1000 users depending on Site
2?
Yes it is possible, but performance depends on the server configuration and
utilizaion. you need to plan that as well.

I believe you got the answers.

Ashwin
