Default Help with installing a program from a sql cluster - 10-02-2009 , 12:16 PM

We are trying to install a program from a sql cluster. The problem is the
install program sees the install coming from the netbios name of the server
that the CD is run from. I want the install program to see the install
coming from the name of the virtual sql server.

My idea is to create either a file share resource or a CD Drive resource in
the SQL cluster. I can then copy the install files from the CD to the file
share resource or run the install CD from the CD Drive resource. I don't
know how to create these resourses. Can someone give me some steps please?
Once again, my goal is to fool the install so it thinks it is coming from
the SQL Server name, not the computer name.

File share resources and SQL Server resources really should not be on the
same system. You can add a file share resource to the SQL Instance, but I
strongly recommend against that.

If you absolutely have to do this, here is how:

Windows 2008 works similar, but substitute the phrase "Service or
Application" for "Resource Group".
