Default Failover web application - 08-19-2004 , 07:09 PM

Hi,

We are looking for failover strategy when primary server failed using
log shipping method. We are not using sql server clustering. What is
the best way to redirect the web application to new server? We used
change in DNS , but due to its caching at client is no longer a viable
option. Any suggestions? Can we use sql 2000's multiple IP addresses?
Please share any experiences. Is there any equivalent of Oracle's
LDAP/onames?

Thanks in advance

Barbara,

You can try using NLB for the SQL servers and take the failed server offline
and force the traffic to hit the standby server.

Hope this helps...
