Thanks for the speedy response. That was fast. In the unadvisable scenerio described above, clients would connect to clstr1\production clustered instance. If I wanted to point to my non-clustered instance on the failover node I would connect to the default (non-clustered) instance...whatever the name might be, right? I'm inclined to follow your recommendations (and my gut) at this point but when challenged I want to be as knowledgeable as possible. On another subject: for the automatic failover, I would need a witness server, right? Could this witness be performing other tasks or should it be a box that is dedicated to its task of being a witness and polling the cluster? Thanks, again. |
