Answer then is yes, you however have to make sure the single node that will
be passive can handle the work load of two instances.
The other consideration is the you need an additional shared NAS/SAN/DMX for
the new instance. A recommendation I had gotten from out network gurus is
using mount points. As there are only 26 letters and we have our Data, Log,
and Backup going to different drives.
So we have
Drive D (2GB)
- Mount Point to another Drive (Data) (200GB)
- Mount Point to another Drive (Log) (100GB)
- Mount Point to another Drive (Backup) (200GB)
So on Drive D I see three folders, but each folder actually is another
drive. It seems to be working nicely for me now.
How ever if you are deploying Cluster on Windows 2008, there is a problem
with the MSI installer. Refer to my blog; I went through lots of Issue with
Microsoft for over 10 hour support call to resolve it

.
Thanks.

Hey Geoff,
Thanks for your response. I understand all of that and for this question
please assume identical hardware. The Windows cluster is not my problem (we
have techies that reckon they can make it work).
The SQL however is, so the question is simple can I add an active node to an
active/passive single instance cluster. |
