Default Attach Error - 02-15-2004 , 09:26 PM

We had a hard disk fail which caused our SQL 2000 database to turn gray and
say 'Suspect'. I detached the database and tried to reattach it. I get the
following error every time I try to reattach it:
Error: 823, Severity: 24, State: 2
I/O error (bad page ID) detected during read at offset 0x000002741c2000 in
file 'E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\web - ecommerce_data.mdf'.

I was able to restore from a backup earlier in the day (5:00 am). How can
I get data from the original mdf file (i.e. I need to get the data from the
time of the backup to the time of the problem)?

Thanks!

Hi Eric,

You should probably open a case with PSS to work through this issue. It
may have been possible to recover some of the data in the MDF before the
database was detached, but you cannot attach a suspect database. Microsoft
has support people who know how to put the database into emergency mode and
transfer objects to another database.

823 errors usually indicate there is a hardware problem of some sort.
Please check the event logs for hardware-related errors and get the
hardware fixed. Otherwise, this same problem may happen again.

Eric,

Do you have log backups that you can get the rest of the data from?

Thanks for the information. I was able to recover the data by following the instructions found at: http://www.spaceprogram.com/knowledg...leted_log.html
