Default Antivirus Software - Can slowburn happen? - 07-21-2009 , 09:21 AM

Hi there
I've seen antivirus software wreck clusters before but normally it
took less than 24 hours to kill the cluster...
A client has a (now dead) cluster. It had mcafee AV with almost
certainly no SQL Server-specific exceptions. Nonetheless it has been
running ok since April.
This weekend The thing died horribly: corrupt data volumes, dead/
corrupt quorum
At this point I don't have access to the logs to review in detail but
I'm wondering in general terms if its possible that antivirus software
can be seem to be ok for a couple of months and cause no problems and
then suddenly wreck data, bring down disks etc. or is the fact it was
ok for a long period mean that it has to be some other issue?
I guess I'm looking for experiences form the field.
Thanks in adavnce
B
