Default Active/Active cluster with bcv disks - 06-18-2009 , 03:15 AM

Hello,

[SQL2008 EE 64 bit on Win2008 64 bit]

Is is possible to configure Windows2008 Active/active cluster on BCV disks?
Has anyone implemented that?

Background: Node1 has OLTP database and Node2 has Reporting database. The
plan is that using EMC replication manager, it is easier to sync the
database between the two node during the daily refresh.

TIA,
AbbA

Yes, absolutely. SQL SErver doesn't care whether it's BCV or not.

Thanks Linchi.

Do you have links to whitepaper/article/blog that talks about this scenario?

You may be able to find some info on the EMC site, espeically thier powerlink
(if it is still called that).

But BCV is just a split of a set of disks from a mirror. If you keep the SQL
instance offline when the split is done and bring SQL online after the BCV
has been presented to the server, all should work well. I have done this many
times without any issue. And now you have up-to-date data for reporting (up
to the point of split anyway assuming replication has brought R2 up to date).
