Default 2+ Node Cluster - 06-10-2008 , 01:25 PM

Hi Folks,

Need a little bit of insight, we *might* be looking at implementing
8-Node cluster. I can set up 2-node cluster without issue with
Active-Passive configuration; when setting up 2+ Node configuration I am a
bit lost.

If I want to have Active-Active-Passive configuration, would I install two
named instances on each server? And set the Failover properties from Server1
to Server3 and Server2 to Server 3? So estinally I am having 2-Node
configruation just 3 nodes are joined together? How does it work? I have
searched alot but no clean answer on it, any pointers, or direction would be
nice. Thanks.

This is an N+1 cluster, i.e. you have N instances running on N+1 nodes.
When N = 1, you have the cluster that you have been used to using - formerly
known as Active/Passive.

You don't install instances onto nodes. Rather, you install them onto the
cluster. The services can then run on any node. Also, check out Russ' blog
