Default 2 instance of Active-Active Cluster - 08-31-2009 , 11:15 AM

Hello everyone,

While installing an active active 2 node cluster with 2 instances I finally
realised that its going to be a lengthy process.

1. You have to prepare each node using the same Instance
Basically install inst1 on Node1 and Node2 and install inst2 on Node2
and Node1
So that makes 4 installation all together

2. Next you'll have to run 2 Cluster Installation Completion for each
instance
So that makes it 2 more setups

Is this correct.

Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention the SQL server Edition
This is a SQL 2008 Server and the OS is Windows 2008 Server.

Yes, for SQL Server 2008, you are correct. While this is different than in
SQL 2005, it makes some great sense when it comes to the stability of SQL
when being upgraded, patched, having new nodes added, and removing nodes.
The additional work provides additional flexibility and less down time for
maintenance.

It is exactly the same process as creating the first instance. You need
another IP address and new disks, and then you run the installation wizard
for SQL again.
