Default 17052 - Communication Errors - 08-05-2004 , 08:12 AM

I have an active/passive cluster on Windows 2000 SP4 and
SQL is SP3a that gets 17052 EventIDs in the form of:

[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = 08S01; native error
= 0; message = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]
Communication link failure

every Sunday Morning at 6 a.m. and at 8 a.m. I've checked
permissions on the service accounts and they're local
administrators. The database is failed over at 1:30 a.m.
every Sunday morning and functions well until the 6 and
again at the 8 a.m. time frame. There's a transaction log
backup that runs at this time, but it does complete
successfully.

My primary culprut is Norton AntiVirus, but the
administrator of that system swears to me that all my SQL
directories are excluded from AntiVirus scans. Any ideas
of what to look at next?

What happens when you get this message?

Is any other jobs running other than the tran log backup during this time? I have seen similar messages when very resource intensive jobs are running. That issue was
resolved by splitting the resource intensive job and changing the start times of the jobs

Thanks. We finally nailed down what was causing the
issue. Our network team was running their backup through
the same NIC card the database/application traffic was
on. Was disrupting communication.
