Default Visual Studio 2005 - 06-27-2007 , 04:28 AM

Hi,

A client is having some issues with software (Progress) conflicting
with Visual Studio 2005 (related to debugging).
As I understand it, Visual Studio 2005 gets installed when SQL Server
2005 is installed?
I was wondering if Visual Studio 2005 is a requirement for any of the
components (including SQL Server Management Studio 2005) of SQL Server
2005 to work?
So can I uninstall Visual Studio 2005 without experiencing issues with
SQL Server 2005 itself or any related components?
I already tried renaming the Visual Studio 2005 installation folder
and could start all programs, but I need to be 100% sure.
Thank you in advance.

Koenraad.

Hi Koenraad,

No you should absolutely not uninstall Visual Studio 2005. Several SQL
Server client components such as Management Studio, SSIS etc. are
integrated into Visual Studio. Therefore, yes, uninstalling Visual
Studio will indeed interfere with certain functionality in SQL Server.
