Default Visual differentiation by environement in SQL Server ManagementStudio - 02-18-2009 , 04:03 AM

Dear All,

My client is requesting to have a visual differentiation of Prod / non
Prod environment in SQL Server Management Studio 2005 (SSMS) used by
Support and/or DEV teams. This, limit the risk of doing something in
Production, while someone might think he's or she's in DEV !

The idea is to have an image or letters in SSMS written in RED big
when it is production, and Green or other colored letters when it is
non production environment. Somewhere where it is visible header or
footer !

Is this achievable in SSMS 2005? or SSMS 2008?

Thanks
Stefan

Any reason why the Devs connect to the Prod databases with SSMS in the first
place?

There is something like that in SSMS 2008: you can have the status color at
the bottom of a query window to be of a different color when connected to a
particular database. However, even with the biggest red letters written all
over the screen; there will always been the possibility of making an error
if you let your Devs to connect directly to any Prod databases.

Devs should connect to a Prod databases only through synchronisation tools
or any other database management tools.
