sqldmo.dll failes to register -

Hi,
I have a VB6 application that connects to a sql server 2000.
The installation process worked fine for several years (I use visual stuion
installer).
But now, all of a sudden, when I install a new version of the software (the
code has only minor changes) on client machines, most of installations
succeed, but some don't. On several machines I get a sqldmo.dll failed to
register, on others dtspkg.dll failed to register. Regsvr32 doesn't resolve
the problem.
I have several identical client machines: the result of the installation is
not predictable.
The installation package hasn't changed. The client machines all have W2K
SP4 on them.
I'm aware of the files needed by sql server 2000 client installations, their
locations and properties: the installation used to install properly on all
machines.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
