Default SQL Server 2008 to manage 2000 databases - 02-17-2009 , 10:54 AM






I'm reinstalling apps on my system and wanted to know which SQL Server version I should install. I'm debating between 2005 and 2008, but I have lots of sql server 2000 databases to manage. My main question is can you manage sql server 2000 databases with sql server 2008 client tools or should I just install 2005?

Shawn,

SQL Server 2008 Management Studio can manage SQL Server 2000. If you need
to manage DTS packages, you will need to download some of the backward
compatibility components for 2000.
