Default RE: Missing sqlncli[1].msi in SQL 2005 Tools install - 07-02-2009 , 01:08 PM

I've seen this before. If I have to take a guess, someone started the
installation with a wrong bit (32 vs. 64) edition and left the component
there.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove this component, andthen reinstall.

When I try to install the SQL 2005 Tools (standard edition), I get the
following error:

"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the
installation package 'sqlncli(1).msi."

There is a copy of sqlncli.msi in the installation kit, but without the (1).
I see one place on the web where someone had a similar problem and executed
sqlncli.msi by hand but 1) I can't execute it by hand - I get an error. 2)
The 2005 installation needs this bit to be successful. It's not optional
and 3) I already have SNC installed for other reasons.

Can anyone help?

TIA
