Default Microsoft Oracle OLE DB Provider - 01-27-2009 , 12:35 PM

I've just set up SQL 2008 Enterprise x64 on a win 2008 x64 enterprise server
os.

In creating some linked server connections, i see that no MSDAORA provider
exists in the x64 version.

Do i need to load some other component to get that OLE DB provider? We need
to be able to connect to Oracle 9 and 10 backend databases running under Unix.

thanks

Hi Frosty,
Thank you for using Microsoft MSDN Managed Newsgroup.

I understand that you would like to connect to your Oracle 9 and 10 from
your 64-bit SQL Server 2008 instance via linked server, however you found
that MSDAORA does not include a 64-bit OLE DB provider.
If I have misunderstood, please let me know.

Yes, MSDAORA is old and designed for Oracle 8. Currently Microsoft does not
provide any 64-bit provider for Oracle. You need to get Oracle's 64-bit
OLEDB Provider for Oracle from Oracle's website. Here is the link for your
reference:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/sof...64-bit/index.h
tml

Hope this helps. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel
free to let me know.

Best regards,
Charles Wang

I have the same problem. Also I downloaded the x64 version and tried to
install it on my Windows Server 2008 x64 machine. The setup starts, but
stops after some seconds with the error "Java(TM)2 Platform Standard Edition
binary has stopped working":
Problem signature:

I have 3 javaw.exe in c:\program files(x86)\EMC\Navisphere subdirectories,
but none is executable without being in its subdirectory, which is not in
the PATH variable.

Any hint to help me would be welcome

Previous link does not install on Win 7 x64...I installed 10g 64 bit ODAC
from link below and it won't install - running setup as admin and results in
"Java 2 Platform Standard Edition binary has stopped working.

I installed 11g 64 bit ODAC and along with Attunity driver BIDS picks up
OleDB driver just fine. I just can't get linked servers to detect any Oracle
providers.
