Default Installing SQL 2008 Client - 07-13-2009 , 04:46 AM

I am trying to install the SQL 2008 client on my PC from the MSDN DVD but it
looks like all of the options want to install the server component.

Can I intall the client from the DVD or download it from somewhere?

Hi Derek,

You can start the installation SQL Server 2008 and if you have already
installed SQL Server 2008 Database Engine on the target PC you can select
"Add features to an existing instance of SQL Server 2008" and choose to
install only the features that you want to install (i.e. Management Tools -
Basic).

In the case you want to only install the client tools on your PC you can
select "Perform a new installation of SQL Server 2008" and then select only
the Management Tools from shared features.

Regards.

Y, you may be looking specifically for the word client, but you won't find
it. Try Management Studio in the installer. It gives you a way to pick the
features you want to install so just choose the above and you should be
fine. Don't forget to also install client connectivity components.
