Default Database Backup - Secondary Server - 05-03-2009 , 10:17 AM

Dear Professional,

I would like to ask quick question regarding taking a backup of Log Shipping
Secondary Server.

I have a primary Server which is in States (Server1 ) and secondary server
in Toronto.(Server2).

From Server1 to Server2 Log Shipping is in place. Now I would like to take a
backup from Server2 and dump into Somewhere else just incase of disaster of
Server 1 and Server2 or Disaster of Toronto Data Center, the problem here is
I can't take full backup from Server2 becauase it's in Standby Mode. I was
wondering, can I run batch file that will stop the SQL Server from Secondary
Server and copy the .mdf and .ldf file every night and copy it some where
else?

Please advice, what you guys think..

Thanks in advance.

Why not just take the same FULL backup you have from Server1 and copy it
some place else? Its the same concept

Even if it is in a different country, you can still copy it to another
location. You copy the FULL database backup on the secondary server and from
there, copy to the target server. I doubt that you'll have the same RPO/RTO
for your standby server to the target server. If your primary server can
access your target server directly, you can just copy the FULL backups
straight away.
