Default Cant connect to SQL 2005 from another PC - 12-23-2006 , 06:13 PM

Hello,

I installed the Enterprise evaluation edition on a virtual windows 2003 server

I can connect to SQL Server from the management studio when i remote connect
to the server, but cant connect to it when i try from another PC.

i sometimes get: "A connection was successfully established with the server,
but then an error occurs during the pre-login handshake. When connecting to
SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the
default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider:
Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - no process is on the other end of the
pipe.) microsoft SQL Server, error: 233)

I have checked the 'Allow remote Connections to this server' option on the
server, but it does seem to help - any suggestions? Deadline approaching

thanks in advance
Ishan

Just the basics but looks like you've got the option turned on using SAC.
Did you also verify in the configuration manager that you have the
appropriate protocols enabled?

Also, take a peek in SQL Server's log to see if there are login failure
entries. That may give you some clue what's not working.

In the SQL Server 2005 Configuration tools , under the network protocalls
section, you should enable TCP/IP. By default in SQL 2k5 it is disabled.
