[sql-general] Help from group - Database Comparisons 1 -

Dear Group -
Any expertise appreciated here.
I'm trying to select a database product for an application and need
to know a few things - any replies appreciated:
The application: approximately 2000-5000 customers will make web-
based additions to & requests from the database daily. In total,
probably about 1 GB of data moving per day, about 20 KB per sec, not
really that high (is it?).
Database will be running on a big commercial server (not sure which
one - one of the popular ones though, sized to fit the need). I need
to size the need.
1) what are the top 5 or 6 general 'parameters' I need to look for
in terms of selecting a database - not the server ,just the
database - and just the TOP parameters that everyone would agree
with - in general terms, not too much techno mumbo jumbo. I will
use these to make my comparison
2) A few databases I've come across are:
- Oracle 10 g, Enterprise Database Release 10.1.0.2
- IBM DB2 Universal Database Server Edition for Windows, v 8.2
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000
- Sybase
How would I know if these could accommodate my needs ?
How would I know how much these would cost?
How would I ***GENERALLY*** assess the pros and cons of these ?
3) Any help really appreciated.
Thanks JM
