DB2 Automatic Maintenance Backup intermittently not running -

Hi,
I'm using Automatic Maintenance on a 9.1. database, offline backup is set
to 'Optimize for database recoverability (more frequent backups)' i.e.
'Maximum time between backups: 1 Day'
There is an offline window of 4 hours. Intermittently it is not backing up
(or making any attempt to backup the db) - nothing in the db2diag.log.
This only seems to happen when there is 2 or more previous backups in the
folder that backups are written to, although this MAY be a co-incidence.
One thing I have considered is whether it is smart enough to know when it
doesn't need to backup - the system is effectively in pilot, and there
wouldn't be any user activity over the weekend, although there are
runstats and reorgs enabled in the online/offline windows. A colleague
mentioned he had read this somewhere but I can't find any references to
it.
Also it isn't pruning previous backups - the account it is running under
has full access to the folder so the pruning isn't being prevented by a
permissions issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
