We've used db2 udb 8 (on Windows) for a few years now and recently swapped
to version 9.

I've only just noticed that there is a big difference between the structure
of the database files in the two versions.
It seems that in version 8, there were index and data files which could be
defragmented by the system. Now we only have one big LRG file wich seems to
have the complete database in it.

Can someone shed some light on this?
1) Is this normal?
2) Is it faster? I'm concerned e.g. with the defragmentation of this big
file. Even if this file is not fragmented, the data and index files in it
can be.
3) In general: why did IBM change this?
