I don't use graphical tools during development. My current customer wishes graphical models. So I'd like to have a tool which can reverse engineer my database and create a model. Is there any reverse engineering tool which requires nearly no 'hand work'? |

Is there any reverse engineering tool which requires nearly no 'hand work'? It would really help knowing what kind of DBMS product you're using. There are many graphical tools that do "reverse engineering". Just google around. I'm sure you'll find some. |

Andreas, Database Diagramming Tool (DDT) is light on features but might work for you: http://gnuwin.epfl.ch/apps/DDT/en/ ... |

Yes, PLEASE mention the DBMS product at least. (mentioning version and platform OS earns bonus points). I've been suprised recently with VISIO. It has a datamodelling feature that can download the SCHEMA. I have only starting trying it out, so I haven't hit it's limits, but it works fine with ORACLE. Might be worth a try. ... |

I use Oracle and MS SQL Server. Meanwhile I know at least two tools which can do reverse engineering. Unfortunately both give you a diagram which is unusable until you move tables around to minimize crossing of connecting lines. I'd like to have a tool which frees me from this kind of work, which can unfold the diagram. |
