It is also the case that British companies are outsourcing call centres to overseas organizations. I agree with hanging up and making complaints to the parent company. I know of a case where a man wanted to spend 2000 pounds on a DELL pc but due to the appalling accent of the Indian call centre operative was unable to complete the transaction. :-) Incidentally, the real reason for the phoney names is to give you a more easily remembered name for any future contact.
