Check out eXtc (www.mgateway.com/eXtc.htm) which runs on top of the
Cache database (www.intersystems.com) . This will provide XML
DOM-based storage and manipulation of XML documents - with eXtc, the
DOM is modelled directly into the database, and if you're running on
top of Cache v5, then storage capacity is up into the terabytes

Ideal for document management, or any digital asset management where
XML can be used to represent the content (eg DocBook, SVG, PDF using
XSL-FO, etc)

is that the XML must be stored, or that it needs to be expressed in XML but
stored relationally?

How large is large & what are the transaction volumes? reads vs writes

Hi!

I'm looking for a good XML Database for a large amount of data.
Do anybody know one?

I just found Tamino (very expensive) and Infonyte-DB. Alternatives? Are
these ones ok?
It's for use in a production system.

Alexander Streicher

You may also want to check out DB XML. It's XML native storage,
based on Berkeley DB. Open source libraries.

There is chapter (#4) on DB XML in the book I helped co-edit:

A.B. Chaudhri, A. Rashid and R. Zicari (eds.) (2003) XML data management:
native XML and XML-enabled database systems (Reading, Massachusetts:
Addison-Wesley)

http://www.awprofessional.com/titles/0201844524/

The chapter was written by John Merrells and Mike Olson.

Also covered in the book are Tamino, eXist, DB2, Oracle 9i and SQL Server.
There are also some chapters on case studies and performance benchmarks.

More information about Native products at Bourret's excellent web site:
