** Improving the Look-n-Feel of your Progress Application

The look and feel of an application is becoming more and more of a
competitive advantage. Applications are often judged not only on
functionality, usability and workflow, but also on whether or not they
follow the latest fashion. How can you improve the user interface of
your OpenEdge application to follow these latest fashion trends? To
what degree can a .NET-like interface be achieved using OpenEdge? What
components are available to help you give your user interface a more
advanced look and feel and, more importantly, how can you put these
components to work?

What will you learn?

This session will show you how you can achieve a more competitive UI,
perhaps a .NET look, in OpenEdge, accompanied by in-depth code
samples.

Proposed Outline:

What is a Windows XP look-n-feel?
What are the possibilities?
A deeper look into some advanced controls
- Navigation panes
- Advanced grids
- Dockable toolbars

** Using the ProDataSet in OpenEdge 10

The ProDataSet is one of the most important new features of OpenEdge
10. It allows you to represent complex multi-level data structures as
a single entity, which you can pass as a parameter and manipulate
using many built-in methods and events.

What will you learn?

This session reviews at a high level the basic principles of the
ProDataSet for those unfamiliar with it. We'll explore specific usage
patterns with examples that should be beneficial to those already
familiar with the ProDataSet syntax. Special attention will be given
to extensions to the ProDataSet in the latest product releases.

Proposed Outline:

Populating and navigating
Data-sources
Events and handlers
Parameter passing (focus on new BIND syntax) Dynamic use (briefly)
Updates, before-table, save-row-changes Copying and extending Batching
XML mapping Using ProDataSets in classes
