Default mySQL v. postgreSQL - 05-16-2006 , 07:53 AM

Anyone have any definitive differences betweeen these two databases in terms
of performance, scalability, ease of use, utilities, etc? I'm looking for
facts and/or anecdotal truths - not opinions. Thanks.

Postgres is far more robust, has been around a longer time and has a
freer licence. MySQL is more popular.

When asking database related questions, please give other posters
some clues, like operating system, version of db being used and DDL.
The exact text and/or number of error messages is useful (!= "it didn't work!").
Thanks.

Furthermore, as a courtesy to those who spend

mysql keeps surprising me with regard to how many things are missing or
done in a nonstandard way. With postgres, it seems that the developers
spend more time testing and validating their additions, leaving a more
consistent product.

Michael.
