Default MySQL "access denied" problems using port forwarding and MySQL Administrator - 06-25-2004 , 04:54 PM

Like it says, I'm trying to use MySQL Administrator over an ssh-forwarded
connection, using port 3306. I tell MA to connect to localhost:3306 as root,
including the password, and it gives me the old "root (AT) localhost (DOT) localdomain"
denied crap. I've added root users for %, localhost, localhost.localdomain,
and the name of the machine from which I'm connecting, all of which seem to
do me zero good. Why the heck is mysql so difficult about permissions and
the hosts from which users come?
