Hi all, My project involves evaluation of different RDBMS systems for speed and performance. I'm currently working on evaluation of RelX Linter DB. I am using VC++ 2005 on Win XP for this project. Could anyone tell me 1. Which is the fastest mechanism to access and retrieve data from Linter DB tables? 2. Can I programmatically retrieve data into my application without using SQL statements? 3. How can I use the Linter Call Interface in my VC++ project? Thanks, Shaji. |

I have not heard ot RelX Linter DBMS before, but I suggest you start by reading the programmer's manual. Have you looked at their web site? (http://www.relexus.com/) HTH, Ed |

Many of the functions are either poorly documented or erroneously documented. I wish I could contact someone who had prior experience in working on Linter DB. Regards, Shaji. |

Well, given your initial post said your work was "evaluation of different RDBMS systems for speed and performance." I would suggest a big factor in determining whether to buy a product is: How well does the vendor support the product? You should be talking to a sales engineer from RelX. If they care so little to provide up-to- date documentation, If it were me, I would be concerned about using the product at all. I did a similar evaluation for a client once. Two products stood out on features lists alone. I attempted to contact both of them. One sent a salesman and a sales engineer who insalled a BETA copy of their latest software for benchmarking. The other company never returned my calls. Guess which one passed up a $1million sale? So get a hold of RelX. If they cannot help you now, what support do you expect them to provide after they have your company's money? Ed- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - |

Hi Ed, What you said is 100% truth. But I am doing this on behalf of a client and they want me to evaluate Linter. I ought to give them the performance report. May be, I can mention the facts you pointed out in my report. Thanks, Shaji. |

Just curious, what are the other databases in the evaluation? I realize you may be pretty far along, but before evaluating specific products you and your client need to come up with the criteria to use for the evaluation. If the rules are not established beforehand, then you can get into preference battles where one manager like a certain DBMS and another manager likes a different one. This is no fun for the contractor caught in the middle. Well good luck! Ed Hi Ed, |

Hi Ed, At present we've been asked to evaluate only Oracle Lite, CacheDB and Linter. It seems the target platform has some memory\processing power constraints. Most probably it'd be an embedded system. We are not quite sure as they wouldn't divulge the details. Thanks, Shaji |
