He thinks the logical and physical models are the same and you don't need

add surrogates when moving frmo the logical to the physical.

I do not believe that. I think Mr. Celko believes that with
intelligent key choice, it may be possible to avoid using surrogates
in many cases.

Actually, if we take the word "surrogate" in its strictest sense, it's
always possible to avoid the use of surrogates.
The question is whether it's always advisable.
