Default [EccoPro PIM] How hard is it to build a flexible database? - 11-24-2006 , 08:58 PM

Hi

I was wondering why no other PIM allows users to work like Ecco
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecco_Pro), and allows users to customize
the schema of the database on which the application runs, ie. adding
columns/folders/fields to the Contact section.

Does someone with good experience with that kind of application know
how hard that is to offer Ecco's user-friendly access to a database?

Thanks.

I am not familiar with Ecco/PIMs, but my first guess is that the
comparison is probably apple to orange. A PIM database is probably
highly specialized and limited in scope; where a regular database is
highly general and can be used in a wide scope of applications.

If you have some sample data, I can enter it into dbd, an experimental
database that I have been developing. It is not user-friendly in
comparison to a PIM, but it's flexible "schema" allows varied
attributes and each things can be organized in multiple folders. Data
can be viewed in either a tree or table. See pics at following links:
