Default DBMS for web server - 06-28-2004 , 07:14 AM

Hello,

I need recommendations for DBMS on Windows 2003 Server (both
commercial and free). I need solution that would be cheaper than
ORACLE, MS SQL or IBM.
Database would primarily be used for ASP.NET. Also it should support
transactional replication (as a destination database not distributor).

If you're willing to wait about 30 days Ingres 3.0 will be released as
OpenSource. Easy to administer, comparible in stability / scalability
to Oracle, SQL Server and DB2. Will also come with a native ADO.Net
provider.

Christian.

Have a look at Firebird on firebird.sourceforge.net. It is an open
source RDBMS i've used in a project for a production control systems
with about 350 GB of data throughput per year with very good results.

It is very easy to administrate, fast and reliable. One of its
advantages is the default isolation level 'serializable'. Another is
that online backup can be done very easily without much influence in the
overall performance.

E-Mails, die direkt an diese Adresse geschickt werden, lese und

aber keine bessere Möglichkeit, um die Spam-Flut abzustellen.

If the data volumes are low but data change rate is high, an in-memory
database such as Polyhedra (www.polyhedra.com) may be appropriate: it has an
ADO data provider interface, and can be configured in hot standby
configurations for fault tolerance.

Have a look at Easysoft.com for the Easysoft ODBC Interbase Driver and
see what you think. I have created many company databases on both
Windows and Linux, mainly creating internal networks powered by both
Firebird and Interbase.
