Default Conferences about database subjects? - 03-14-2009 , 12:47 PM

Hello,

There are lots of conferences about virtualization, operating system
technology (usenix) and software engineering. And there are many product/
vendor specific database-related conferences.

But are there any conferences about database subjects? - I.e. a
conference with a mix of the latest from research and interesting new
ideas/trends in the practitioners' world. (And perhaps also a few talks
from DBMS vendors.)

Wouldn't the big one be SIGMOD? http://www.sigmod09.org/

How about dbdev list at sigmod.org: it is pretty active with conf
announcements?

Thanks - I'll have a look at it. About SIGMODs "own" conference which Bob
suggested: It sounds a bit too theoretical for me, after all. Although
some of the topics certainly sound like some to look out for. (A new(?)
theme seems to be probabilistic data management; interesting.)

I'm looking for a conference where there would be a talk about the news
in SQL:2008, talks about column store DBMSes (including open source
implementations like MonetDB), and other more down-to-Earth topics. Will
keep looking.

I apologize if this appears to be a duplicate. I responded to this days
ago, but my local news server is not showing my reply.

I believe SIGMOD/PODS would be the primary conference on database subjects.

SIGMOD
EDBT
DEXA
ICDE
VLDB should of course also be in there. I'm getting old.
