Default Business rules extraction - 07-11-2004 , 01:02 PM

Hi All,

I am trying to make sense out of the concept of "business rules
extraction" or "business rules mining" (BRM) from a given database. I
am trying to understand what is the process of performing BRM, and
what tools are available.

Could you please suggest a good place to start? Also, I will really
appreciate it if you could provide me with pointers on how to find
real life case studies where such extractions were performed.

Thank you,
Regards,

Cathy.

Take a look at "data profiling" as a search term on google. There are
several tools available: Ascential, Evoke, DataFlux, Innovative, etc all
provide data profiling tools. While these are usually thought of as
checking for quality issues, a particularly useful function is the reverse
engineering of business rules from the raw data.
