Default books about database design / modeling - 07-28-2006 , 07:40 PM

Any recommendations for database design / data modeling / application
development?
Most 'database' books seem to focus a lot on administration and not much on
design and development.
Any good books I should look for?
Something that would help with conversion from a hierarchical database
(DL/I) to a relational database would be great! But I don't hold out much
hope that such a thing exists.

Thanks,
Frank

Two of my favorite books about databases are: Database Design for Mere
Mortals and Sql Queries for Mere Mortals. The Database Design book is
useful, but the Queries book is outstanding.

A good short introduction is also "Database Modelling in UML"
