Default VFP 9: Installing the Runtime - 09-06-2006 , 03:27 PM

How do I install the VFP 9 runtime on a Windows 98 machine?

With VFP 6, I could select to install just the runtime off the
VFP 6 CD. It does not work this way with 9.

I just installed VFP 9 (the whole works) and it started up fine,
but I do not want the whole works up, just the runtime.

I have the VFP 9 upgrade (in case that makes the answer
different).

Probably the best way is to make an installer for your app using the
included version of InstallShield. Other than that, you might be able to get
by with registering the runtime files.

You can download all VFP runtimes - ready to use setups - from:
ftp.prolib.de

Gene, I just ran into some challenges with installing VFP9 on
workstations for a network. We kept having trouble with it not working
because some library item was not found.
After a lot of research and fooling around I discovered that you don't
need to do any installs on the workstation. Just be sure that the
correct files reside in the folder that the exe is running from.
You will need to put the dll's there as well as some of the other
library items.
someone on the exhange has the list. If you can't find it contact me
and I will get you a dir listing.
Then all you need for an install is to create a shortcut on the
workstation.
Has been working great.

That did it nicely. I assume that it is for SP1. Am I correct?

Are you registering the dll's correctly?

This is not how it works on 100% of the systems I'm involved with.
