Default VFP 8/9 and Windows 95? - 02-04-2005 , 06:16 PM

Do VFP 8/9 applications run in Windows 95?? I have a customer who is
running my application on a Windows 95 machine and all the application
top-of-screen menus contain nothing but white space. When re-installed on a
Windows 98 machine everything works fine. Microsoft VFP 8 help does NOT
list Windows 95 as a compatible operating system. Is this because its so
old they don't want to mention it anymore or does VFP 8/9 NOT work in this
operating system??? HELP!

Paul

In a nutshell - No. In fact, even Windows 98 has problems. And Windows
ME - Don't even try.

Move them onto either Windows 2000 or XP.

Time moves on.
Welcome to the upgrade treadmill.

Yes; they run -- despite what others may say.

The DEVELOPMENT environment is not supported on win9x -- the resulting EXE & vfp
runtimes work fine.

I have both vfp8 & 9 apps running on win98.

Josh,
Actually since Win 95 doesn't support GDI+ (Win 98 does, but it has to be updated), it's possible that a VFP 8.0/9.0 application will not display properly - especially the VFP 9.0 report previews. On the other hand, if you are running a non-GUI app/DLL, it should run fine in Win 95.

Rick you are completely correct...
But I guess it "can" run would have been better.

The apps that are running (mine at least) that are 95 are processing apps --
they just grab data & process it...

Everyone else; I've urged to move to xp since 95 is no longer supported & 98 is
right around the corner... and of course, ME is well, ME
