Default VFP 6: Browsing Oddity - 12-08-2004 , 10:38 PM

I ran into an interface oddity today.

I occasionally use edit to view data when there is only one
record that I want to look at. I used edit, then did another select
(not to a cursor, etc.). The results of the select were in edit
format. I closed that window, used browse and got results in browse
format.

Is there a setting to adjust for this, or am I stuck with the
last format used is what I will see the next select in?

It looked as if SELECT's PREFERENCE phrase might be relevant, but
it seems to be about opposite of what I want.

Sincerely,

Gene Wirchenko

Hi Gene,
Actually the edit view for a browse is not a browse, it's an edit (thats
actually a command) so instead of typeing BROWS, type EDIT

BROWSE PREFERENCE probably isn't what you want either. <g>

Edit and Browse are really the same command, internally. Just different
presentations. Take a look at the View menu while you have a browse or edit
window open. The first two options are Browse and Edit, and they're mutually
exclusive. It's a toggle.

Fox has historically (back to 1.0, I think) remembered the last thing you
did (in the same session, but a resource file will carry to the next
session).

Is there a programmetic way to set it? (I mean, aside from
keyboard.)

It does not appear to carry to the next session.

Use the EDIT command instead of the BROWSE command?

I am not using BROWSE but SELECT and getting the results noted.
