Default running FoxPro 2.6 in xp professional - 04-06-2007 , 05:39 PM

When opening FoxPro 2.6 for windows in Windows XP Professional I get a
system error message "Divide by zero or overflow error". Will FoxPro
run in XP Professional. Any suggestions?

That's apparently part of Microsoft protection scheme to keep
folks from loading a legitimate backup or copy from
another system. I have it running on XP Pro just fine
so long as it is loaded from the original floppies which
I've not been able to successfully reproduce. I just
recently bought an unopened complete package on eBay.

I need to add that if you go into the FPW26 directory
and click on Foxhelp, the program will come up.

I think you can probably try to bring up any database
and have the program kick in for you while direct
addressing fails.

Nope, the problem is the initialization routine which sets a variable
and then decrements it for a specific number of jiffies (OS clock ticks)
and then divides by the remaining number. On computers faster than
about 350Mhz this causes the error. There is a patch if you can find
it, that fixes that problem. There are also a couple of other problems
that require workarounds for which there is no patch, just the
requirement to not do certain things. If your lucky someone in here
might still have a copy of the patch.

One of the workarounds was to launch something else at the same time as
FPW that took up lots of processing power which would prevent the error
by eating up a large part of the processing power for a short time.
