Default Not A Database File... NOT! - 02-23-2004 , 09:16 PM

Hi;

I've posted this message before...

We have a small network Peer to Peer, running mainly win98SE machines.
Recently a few XPs where added to the network. They replaced 98
machines.

On thr XP machines we get lots of 'NOT a database file' errors. The
problem is that the database is quite OK. All the other stations see
and USE it OK. Only the XPs have a problem opening them. It seems to
happen when most users a logged in.

Any ideas? Workarounds?

Anyone knows if the problem will be fixed by replacing the 98 'server'
with XP or 2003Server?

Thanks for any help,

AK

I would look at networking issues in general.
fpd is pretty rock solid.

so on teh XP box if you issue "use f:\MyTable" you get "not a table" and on
win9x boxes -- "use f:\MyTable" at the same time works ok....

I am having the same problem and a little worse. I am also getting
records that are being duplicated somehow. I have noticed that if
there is some other process that is using the table like another
instance of foxpro or msaccess on the same computer... that us when I
get the not a table message. Let me know if you come up with a
solution.

Sounds like an oplocks problem. Search for "Oplocks explained" in
Google.
